Interpreting (spoken)

In person interpreting, which includes simultaneous, consecutive and whispered. From Terping Stick Figuresmall meetings to an entire conference, we can provide interpreters in Spanish-English and Portuguese along with all the necessary equipment for any interpreting assignment you may have.

Here is a little info on the different kinds of interpreting we offer.

Simultaneous interpreting

In simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter(s) renders the speech in the target language as quickly as WE can formulate it in real-time from the source language. The source language speaker continuously speaks and the interpreter speaks into the microphone(a headphone/mic is usually used). Simultaneous interpreting requires use of specialist equipment which we can also provide.

Whispered interpreting

In whispered interpreting, the interpreter sits or stands next to a small target language audience (can make it challenging to people that have hearing impairment or that the language that is translated to is not their first language). Whispered interpreting is used in circumstances where the majority of a group speaks the source language and a minority (ideally no more than three people) do not speak it.

Consecutive interpreting

In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter speaks after the source language speaker has finished speaking. The speech is usually divided into segments, and the interpreter sits or stands beside the source language speaker, listening and taking notes as the speaker progresses through the message. When the speaker pauses or finishes speaking, the interpreter then renders a portion of the message or the entire message in the target language. Consecutively-interpreted speeches, or segments of them, tend to be short. Usually they last no longer than 15 minutes. Consecutive interpreting does not require any additional equipment.

Sight translation/interpreting

On occasion, document sight translation is required of the interpreter during consecutive interpretation work. Sight translation combines interpretation and translation; the interpreter must render the source language document to the target language as if it were written in the target language.

Equipment

Simultaneous interpreting requires specialized equipment, from sound proof booths and delegate headsets to having a technician on site to ensure smooth running. We provide all equipment necessary to make sure your event runs smoothly.
